Afrika Bambaataa był rewolucjonistą w kwestii sampli. Nikomu wcześniej nie przyszło do głowy, by sięgnąć po punk rock albo Kraftwerk, a o jego przeboju "Planet Rock" mawiano, że brzmi jak lądowanie statku kosmicznego w getcie. Podkłady miały zaskakiwać, a kolejni artyści do dziś podejmują to wyzwanie (chyba nikt was tak nie zaskoczy, jak Action Bronson!).
